Rich tributes paid to Karbala Shuhada on Ashura

KARACHI: Ashura processions taken out amid strict security to pay tributes to the Shuhada (martyrs) of Karbala in all the big and small cities and towns of the country culminated peacefully on Tuesday evening.

Extraordinary security measures had been put in place by the law enforcement agencies and concerned administrations to ensure safety to the life and property of the people on Ashura (the tenth day of the holy month of Moharramul Haram).

Mobile services also remained suspended during the day
time in many parts of the country as part of the security plan of the federal and provincial governments on the 9th and 10th Moharram. Pillion riding was also banned in sensitive cities of the country

Processions of Alam and Zuljinnah, which were participated by a large number of mourners, taken out in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and other parts of the country passed through their traditional routes and culminated peacefully at their designated points.

Earlier, the participants of the processions performed Zuhrain prayers on the roads.

The Ulema leading the processions recounted the Karbala tragedy and highlighted the importance of the event, having a unique status due to supreme sacrifices rendered for the cause of humanity and Islam.

Special programmes were aired on TV and radio transmissions in relevance to the Karbala event while newspapers published features to shed light on its significance.
