MIRANSHAH: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets on Tuesday blitzed suspected terrorist hideouts in the North Waziristan Agency and reportedly killed 30 militants, including a Taliban commander.

Security officials said the fighter jets targeted sanctuaries of the militants in Madakhel, Dattakhel and Shawal Valley of North Waziristan.According to security officials, seven sanctuaries of militants were destroyed in the air strikes. The officials said 30 militants, including a Taliban commander, Daud Wazir, were killed and over a dozen others sustained
injuries.

Sources said that commander Daud was a resident of Doga Madakhel and was an important commander of the local Taliban, headed by Hafiz Gul Bahadur. However, the killing of commander Daud could not be confirmed through Taliban or any other independent sources due to lack of communication facilities in the militancy-torn North Waziristan.

According to military authorities, more than 1,500 militants have been killed and 80 percent area of the tribal region cleared of the militants during the military operation launched on June 15, 2014 against the local and foreign fighters.

Majority of the tribesmen have fled their homes and villages and are living in rented houses or with their relatives and friends in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera and elsewhere in the province.

A small number of displaced families had agreed to live in the tented camp the government had set up for the internally displaced persons outside Bannu.Frustrated by hardships and staying away from home for about four months, the displaced people have been putting pressure on the government to make arrangements for their return to the areas which the security forces had secured from the militants.
